Family Migration

Family migration generally consists of two categories of visas:

 

Partner Visa

The partner visa is eligible for the life partners of Australian citizens or Permanent residents.  Partner visas include both spousal relationship as well as de facto relationships.

 

  • Spouse Visa / De Facto Spouse Visa:
    This visa category is for married couples as well as couples in a committed long-term relationship who aren't legally married. This category includes:

    • Partner lives offshore:

      • Partner Visa (Temporary) (Subclass 309)​

      • Partner Visa (Permanent) (Subclass 100)

    • Partner lives onshore:

      • Partner Visa (Temporary) (Subclass 820)​

      • Partner Visa (Permanent) (Subclass 801)

  • Prospective Marriage (Fiance) Visa (Subclass 300):
    This is visa is for the fiance of an Australian citizen or permanent resident. This visa itself is valid for 9 months during which time the marriage must occur. Afterwards, the visa holder may apply for a spouse visa from within Australia

Family Visa

These visa classes unite families under special conditions.

 

  • Parent Visas:
    The Parent visas are for parents of settled Australian citizens or permanent residents. These are:

    • Parent Visa (Subclass 103)

    • Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 870)

  • Child Visa:
    The child visa is for a child (natural or adopted) of an Australian citizen or Permanent resident.

    • Child Visa (Subclass 101)​

  • Carer Visa:
    The carer visa is for people who need to and have a duty for care for an Australian relative, who is a citizen or permanent resident. This includes:

    • Carer Visa (Subclass 116)

    • Carer Visa (Subclass 836)

  • Remaining Relative Visa and Aged Dependent Relative Visa:
    These visas are for people who have no other close relatives other than those who are settled Australian citizens or permanent residents.

    • Age Dependent Relative Visa (Subclass 838/114)

    • Aged Parent Visa (Subclass 804)
